Home is the primary place for teaching and nurturing the faith. Try some of these ideas in your household:
- Make a family worship center in your home. At least once a week gather for a devotion. Take turns leading these times together.
- Celebrate every family member's baptismal birthday. Invite extended family members or friends who can become your extended family. Make a "saint poster" for the birthday person. Use words, draw pictures, make a collage, or use photos to tell how this person models the Christian life.
- Create a family banner using computer paper, poster board, or cloth. Each family member can draw something that shows how she or he is unique. Write how God is at work in your family.
- Have a "Best of Our Music" night. Each person brings a song to play that is an example of her or his favorite music. Talk about the messages expressed in the songs. What are the positive messages? Negative ones? Talk about how the words reflect life in your family or with your friends. Does it reflect the presence of God?
- Choose a family mission project. Plan the date, location, and details. After the project talk together about how the experience helped you grow in faith.
- During the summer months develop a family prayer book. Ask grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends to write prayers for your family. Collect them and make them into a book. Use this family prayer book for your family devotions.
- Write new verses to familiar hymn or song tunes. Create verses about God's presence in your family.
